Essential Oils, Holistic Approach

A few days ago my kids were begging for dessert so I hauled out the ice cream and cones and watched as my 1 year old begged and begged for his own.  I guess the little tasters I once gave him are not enough now that he is getting older.  Being the softie mom that I am I decided to give in and make him his own.

Boy, did I pay for it!  Within matter of hours he got irritable and started pooping liquid fire.  Poor kid was just miserable.  I got up 3 times that night to change diapers… and trying to work with a very irritable and wiggly 14 month old at all hours of the night with a frightening rash isn’t too easy.  The dairy/sugar combo isn’t good for anybody let alone a young child who isn’t used to that much at once.

A diaper rash is a red rash of the skin in the diaper area caused by prolonged skin exposure to the moisture and different pH of urine and feces.   It’s often times caused from an overgrowth of candida (yeast) in the system.  Candida feeds on sugar, so naturally my little boy experienced a rash from his highly acidic treat.

I started treating it with Desitin which is a common over the counter zinc topical ointment for relief.  It helped his mood slightly, but it didn’t take away the redness.  After 2 attempts with that I discarded it and went for my Melaleuca essential oil knowing that Melaleuca relieves all types of fungal infections because it is a candida killer (antifungal and antiseptic).   I applied it directly on his diaper area and he didn’t even flinch.  In fact, the redness that had been there since the day before dissipated within about 30 minutes!

Each time he went potty in his diaper the redness and irritation returned and each time I applied the Melaleuca essential oil it went away.   My little Benson was still a bit moody even though I took away the discomfort of the rash.  As I was trying to figure out why he was still cranky it suddenly donned on me!   With a rash like that he was probably experiencing an upset stomach.   I put doTerra Digestzen essential oil blend on his feet and after just a couple applications his mood changed and he was pooping normal without any redness.

Digestzen essential oil blend helps various problems related to the digestive system.  The oils in this blend have been studied for their abilities in balancing the digestive system and in soothing many ailments in this system.  The oils in this blend include:

  • Ginger
  • Peppermint
  • Tarragon
  • Fennel
  • Caraway
  • Coriander
  • Anise

I have been so grateful for this blend with my pregnancy.  Whenever I experienced heartburn due to a poor meal, I just capsulized a few drops and swallow my magic pill down.  It gets rid of my heartburn within just a few minutes.  I also rub it on my tummy area to help with any nausea or rub it on my kids feet if they are having a tummy ache.   Inhaling Digestzen alone helps alleviate the discomfort of  digestive issues like bloating, diarrhea, and constipation.   I know from experience because whenever I suffer from any of those things I take my Digestzen essential oil blend to alleviate the discomfort right away.

Application of the Digestzen blend:

  • Apply to feet and on the ankles
  • Topically on the stomach area
  • Dilute a drop or two in water and drink down
  • Put a few drops in a capsule
  • Apply to animal paws for parasites
  • Can be used in retention enema for ridding the colon of parasites

I’m so grateful that as a mother I have these oils.  doTerra essential oils stepped up to the plate to resolve my son’s awful diaper rash.   I don’t know what I would do without them!  I’m so grateful for these oils and how easy the nurturing life as a mother has become!

Hi I’m wondering about melaleuca for diaper rash,
Will it burn my baby’s bum? Do I have to put it on mixed with coconut oil?
My baby has a bad rash and just don’t want it to burn her:)

Hopped online in desperate need for a cure to my baby’s diaper rash and stumbled upon your blog. I tried the melaleuca and it stung a little upon application on her really bad wound. But this morning I checked her diaper and the awful redness on her bottom is gone. Thank you for the post! The bad wound is 75% better, and I’ll be applying lavender oil for the rest of the day as she doesn’t seem to feel it when applied.
